Buy Platinum from Surepure Chemetals

Surepure Chemetals sells pure platinum, platinum-iridium alloy, and platinum-rhodium alloy.

We stock many sizes and can supply others with short lead times.

Properties of Platinum

Platinum is ductile (can be stretched), malleable (can be compressed), lustrous (shiny), silvery-white, highly resistant to corrosion and oxidation, very unreactive and stable. It has a high melting temperature and has catalytic properties.

Uses of Platinum

Due to its unreactivity and resistance to corrosion, platinum can be used for medical devices and for dentistry. Due to its high melting point and high conductivity, it is used for electrical contacts and electrodes. One of platinum's main uses is for catalytic converters.

Platinum ASTM Specifications

Surepure Chemetals sells pure platinum covered by the ASTM B561 specification.
We can also provide platinum-iridium alloy covered by the ASTM B684 specification.

Harmonized System Export Code for Platinum

The HS code for semi-manufactured platinum (including platinum wire and sheet) is 7110.19.00.00.
The HS code for platinum sponge is 7110.11.00.20.

Surepure Chemetals sells platinum in several forms:

Buy Platinum Wire and Rod

Surepure's platinum wire is RoHS compliant.
Standard diameters range from 0.001" (smaller than a human hair) to 0.125".
We use the term "wire" for smaller diameters that are supplied on a spool or as a coil.
We use the term "rod" when the diameter is large enough that it can be supplied as a straight length.

Platinum Use in Thermocouples and Resistance Thermometers

A thermocouple is a temperature-measuring device consisting of two different types of conductor wires. Platinum and Platinum-Rhodium thermocouples are a very stable type of thermocouple and can be used at high temperatures, up to 1800°C (3272°F), depending on the type of thermocouple.

Type B thermocouples are made up of Platinum 70% / Rhodium 30% wire paired with Platinum 94% / Rhodium 6% wire, and can be used up to 1800°C (3272°F).

Type R thermocouples are made up of
Platinum 87% / Rhodium 13% wire paired with Pure Platinum wire, and can be used up to 1600°C (2912°F).

Type S thermocouples are made up of Platinum 90% / Rhodium 10% wire paired with Pure Platinum wire, and can be used up to 1600°C (2912°F).
Before 1990, Type S thermocouples were used as the standard international thermometers from 630°C to 1064°C.

Buy Platinum Foil, Sheet, Plate, and Ribbon

Platinum sheet
0.025" thick x 2.00" x 2.00"

Platinum ribbon
0.001" thick x 0.025" wide

Standard thicknesses range from 0.002" to 0.128".
Available widths depend on the thickness.
We use the terms "foil," "sheet," and "plate" for shorter cut pieces (usually up to 12" long) that are usually supplied flat.
"Foil" is very thin;
"Sheet" is a little thicker and is thus a little stronger and bends less;
"Plate" is even thicker and is barely pliable.
We use the term "ribbon" for longer pieces that are usually supplied on a spool.

Buy Platinum Target, Disc, and Circles

Standard thicknesses range from 0.004" to 0.128".
Standard diameters range from 0.188" to 2.5".
"Target," "disc," and "circle" all refer to metal that is flat and round, like a coin.
They are sometimes used as sputtering targets for physical vapor deposition (PVD).

Buy Platinum Chemicals and Platinum Powder

We supply pure platinum powder and granules as well as platinum-based chemicals.
We use the term "powder" for smaller grain sizes, and
we use the term "granules" for larger grain sizes.

Buy Platinum Square Wire and Flat Wire

Surepure Chemetals can supply made-to-order platinum and platinum-iridium square wire and flat wire.
Lead time is usually about 1 week.

Buy Platinum Tubing

Surepure Chemetals can supply made-to-order platinum tubes.
Lead time is usually 3 - 6 weeks.
